Best Exotic Auto Tuning Car Concept | McLaren MP4 12C XP Details, Specs, and Reviews

McLaren MP4 12C XP

McLaren Automotive launches the first in a series of broadcast-quality short videos, which present a rare insight into a performance car testing program from the development team behind the new McLaren MP4-12C. As a brand new car company, McLaren Automotive has a unique and engaging story to tell prior to its first model going on sale in Spring 2011. Meanwhile, 2009’s intense testing and development program is clearly demonstrating the 12C’s potential and McLaren Automotive is presenting rare company footage and insight that reveals its plans, processes and challenges.

In a short film entitled ‘Inside McLaren: developing the MP4-12C’, viewers take the first steps to understanding how McLaren Automotive will fulfil its ambition to launch the MP4-12C as a genuine challenger to the world’s best high performance sports cars. Highlights include:

An introduction to the McLaren Technology Center (MTC) and the MP4-12C test program by McLaren Automotive Technical Director, Dick Glover.

Chief Test Driver Chris Goodwin on how the 12C performs in extreme test conditions.

An overview by senior engineers of the integrated approach to development on roads and tracks around the world and, virtually, back at MTC 12C development (XP) prototypes on road and track in England and Germany, and extreme hot weather testing in Bahrain.

The challenging and comprehensive development programme has taken in some of the world’s most famous race circuits and most inhospitable driving environments; from the dry and cold, ice and snow of the Arctic, to the hot and humid, sand-soaked air of the Middle-East.

Combined with cutting-edge simulation programmes, Formula 1 techniques, personnel and processes, and thousands of miles of ‘real world’ on-road driving on the UK’s notoriously poor tarmac surfaces, the tight-knit testing team has taken giant strides through 2009 in the 12C’s development. The result is ‘pure’ McLaren: a revolutionary high performance sports car that features unique engineering solutions to deliver new standards in comfort, driving dynamics, economy and performance in the ‘core’* sports car market.

*’Core’ market according to McLaren Automotive are performance sports cars priced between £125,000 and £175,000

Dick Glover, Technical Director at McLaren Automotive is responsible for the 50-strong Testing and Development team and the eight development (XP) cars that have featured in the 2009 programme: “I am really proud of what the team has achieved this year,” he said.

“Having to develop a brand new range of cars from scratch to the standards expected of McLaren, featuring ground-breaking new structures and powertrain is the ultimate challenge and one we are relishing. Sure, we have challenges – that is why we go to these places that absolutely push the cars to their limits and beyond – but now we know just what the 12C is capable of, we are able to push on into 2010 and deliver cars of which McLaren will be rightly proud.”

The 2009 testing programme has focused heavily on two of the most famous tracks in the world – the notorious Nordschleife Nurburgring and the circuit seen by millions on-screen, the BBC Top Gear test track at Dunsfold Aerodrome. Both tracks push cars to their limits. But the success of the programme will also rest on McLaren’s technological innovation and experience.

The results of a testing session’s road and track performance are rapidly assessed within MTC. Simulation and rapid engineering practices – two core aspects of a successful Formula 1 team – are then employed to re-calibrate the XP test cars in-situ ready for the following day, or night’s, development targets.

Chris Goodwin, professional racing driver and Chief Test Driver at McLaren Automotive, summed up the self-imposed pressures on the development team: “McLaren has always set itself the highest standards. We are the most successful ever motor racing team, we designed and built one of the world’s most iconic sports cars in the world in the McLaren F1, and pioneered carbon fibre development on race and road cars.

“We took those standards into the development programme for the MP4-12C in order to launch a new high performance sports car comparable with past achievements and offering new levels of performance for the future. For us, these targets were simply starting points and that attitude requires the most thorough development possible. We believe that our global testing is delivering incredible strides for the 12C.”

Other highlights:

Simon Andrew (Vehicle Development Engineer) sends back detailed daily reports from all test sessions to McLaren Automotive personnel in a wide range of functions, not just other members of his team. This ensures that the full range of the company’s engineers, designers and management are able to contribute their experience.

Rob Tyers is one of many team members introduced from the McLaren Racing division, bringing their experience of rapid decision-making in a highly competitive environment to bear on a traditionally slower-paced industry. No other car company in the world offers this combination and experience of motor racing and road-car development personnel under one roof.

McLaren Automotive has developed a unique programme inspired by the rapid development requirements of Formula 1. This brings together the whole development team at one venue over a period of up to two weeks. Huge strides are gained during these intense testing periods as all car systems are stretched to their limits in combination and as a whole, rather than part by part in sequence.

Mc LarenShowroom | 2010 McLaren shows off London showroom

MP4-12C supercar to be sold from extravagant London location

McLaren has already shown off its stunning MP4-12C supercar, and now it has a dealership to match. The firm has announced that its flagship London outfit will be located at the base of the One Hyde Park development, which is currently being built between Harrods and Harvey Nichols in swanky Knightsbridge.

The building is due to open in late October, and was designed by superstar architects Rogers Stirk Harbour and Partners. The dealer, run by Jardine Motors Group, plans to fit out the showroom to McLaren’s exacting standards early next year, in preparation for the launch of the MP4-12C in the spring.

McLaren predicts that given the dealer’s prestigious location in one of London’s most affluent areas, it could become the busiest in the firm’s network of 35 specially selected showrooms worldwide. As well as its new road cars, the showroom will display a selection of McLaren’s F1 cars. The London outfit will be joined in the UK by other independently run dealerships in Birmingham and Manchester.

Geneva Auto Show 2010 - Lamborghini LP 570-4 Superleggera

 Lamborghini LP 570-4 Superleggera

There’s nothing quite like a new Lamborghini to excite a motor show crowd, and Geneva is no exception! Building on the success of the LP 560-4 and the limited-run rear-wheel drive Balboni edition, this is the new flagship in the Gallardo range.

The idea behind the car is simple; more power and less weight. The 5.2-litre V10’s output has been increased by 10bhp to 562bhp, while 70kg has been stripped from the kerbweight. This was achieved by fitting plastic windows and rear windscreen, as well as various carbon fibre body parts. Even Alcantara is used on the seats instead of leather to save vital pounds.

And the result? A 0-60mph dash in 3.4 seconds and a top speed of 202mph.

According to a Lamborghini spokesman, every exterior modification is to the benefit of downforce. So the enormous front splitter, completely flat underbody and small rear spoiler are all functional, as well as giving the car a meaner new look.

Exhibition Cars Show | SR-71 Ford Mustang Sold at Charity Auction

SR-71 Ford Mustang

A world premiere took place at this year’s Experimental Aircraft Association’s (EEA) AirVenture: the fruit of the labour of two of the most renowned Ford Mustang builders was taken home by one lucky fellow in a charity auction held for the Young Eagles program. The bid that won the SR-71 Mustang, for which Carroll Shelby and Jack Roush joined hands some time ago was at $375,000. Of course, being a charity auction, it was somehow expected to top a couple thousand dollars, but the final bid was fitting for what was at stake.

The SR-71 Mustang, which by the way bears the initials of the two producers, features a 5-litre V8 engine boosted by a 2.3-litre SuperCharger. Other features include a roll cage, Recaro seats (topped by the signatures of Jack Roush and Carroll Shelby), a customized racing steering wheel, a Roush intake. An interesting coincidence in the name is also the fact that the SR-71 Blackbird which was built by Lockheed Martin represented the inspiration for the model. The Mustang features the same color pattern as the aircraft. Another coincidence is that the first Mustang rolled out of production when the SR-71 entered the service.

Ferrary Performs | 2010 Ferrari 430 - Status Design

 Ferrari 430

Before we set of I have to say the Russians over at tuning company, Status Design were in some sort of meeting when they had some serious… protocol drinks and then they got to the Ferrari 430 And when they got to it and looked a bit at the spec sheet they must have started laughing and said to themselves, these Italians are weak, let’s show them how it’s done.

To this respect they went straight to the heart of the problem, the 4.3 liter V8 engine, fitted it with new air filters, a new exhaust system and then remapped the ECU. These changes didn’t make much of a difference. I mean, power output went from 490 to 525 horsepower but somehow they said this car needed more. So more it got, as an option you can get a supercharging kit made by Novitec which should nicely round up the power figure to a meaty 700 horses.

Everyone in the automotive world is still waiting for the Ferrari Enzo successor, and Radovan Varicak has displayed these concept pictures of what the new F70 could look like. We are uncertain if the car will be called the Enzo again, but we do know that code name for this project is the Ferrari F70.

From the factory it should produce around 700 bhp with the V8 twin-turbo, while only weighing around 1,200 kg. The estimated acceleration time from 0 to 100 km/h will be under 3 seconds, while the high end Ferrari will top out around 360 km/h. Now these are only the renderings from Radovan, but expect to hear about a full press release once Ferrari finishes the design details.

Great Cars | Alfa Romeo 8C Spider - The Four Best Things

Alfa Romeo 8C Spider

Fiat Family Car
Acquired by Fiat in 1986, Alfa Romeo has been able to produce some of the hottest and most desired vehicles on the market today. Surrounded by a family of high-class luxury automobiles, the Alfa Romeo brand is able to produce cars that are far superior, in many experts’ minds, to their competitors.

Limited Quantity
Having something rare isn’t only a great investment for now; it’s an even better investment for the future. If you’ve got a big enough wallet to afford the initial price of the 8C Spider along with the auto insurance, you could have your hands on a car that might be worth millions in the future. With only 500 produced worldwide, and 100 sold in the U.S., the 8C Spider is a cherished rarity.

Ferrari Engine
Due to the fact that Fiat, which owns Alfa Romeo, also owns Ferrari, it’s expected that the two might share similarities. But Ferrari and the 8C Spider have more than similar concepts; the coupe runs on a 4.7-liter V-8 engine that originated from Ferrari.

Fold-Away Electric Roof

The one thing that experts say sets the 8C apart from its competitors is its convertible roof. The fabric roof of the 8C Spider is made of two layers; one made up of a weather proof material, and another to ensure that the cabin stays as quiet as possible when closed.

2011 Chevrolet Cruze Eco and Cruze RS - Official Details, Reviews

2011 Chevrolet Cruze Eco and Cruze RS

By the time New York auto show rolls around at the end of the show season, most of the big debuts have been announced. But stop the presses, boys, because Chevy is storming the Big Apple with nothing less than two brand-new variations of its upcoming Cruze compact sedan—the Cruze Eco and the Cruze RS appearance package. Yes, two more variations on the compact sedan that Chevy has been promising us for about two years now but has yet to sell on American shores. These two, however, promise to be among the most interesting to buyers.

The valiant mission of the 2011 Cruze Eco is to realize the magic 40-mpg highway fuel-economy number, thus giving Chevrolet a Cruze that offers what it calls hybrid-like efficiency without the expense of actually making a Cruze hybrid. (That, in a way, is the Volt, which utilizes Cruze architecture.) The Eco model pairs the 138-hp, 1.4-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine with a six-speed manual transmission packed with what are likely to be some pretty tall ratios. An optimized axle ratio helps stretch the Eco model’s legs. And low-rolling-resistance tires also come along for the ride (if not the handling).
Automotive minutae-philes may remember that Chevy also pulled those same stunts to squeak an extra three to five mpg from the Cruze’s predecessor, the Cobalt, with its XFE model. With the Cruze Eco, however, aerodynamics have been made a bigger priority, resulting in less open space within the upper grille and a lower-grille shutter that closes at higher speeds to reduce drag. And—get this—the Eco model rides on a dropped suspension. Equipped thus, and riding on unique—and not altogether unattractive—multispoke 17-inch wheels, the Eco model actually winds up being one of the nicest-looking Cruze models we’ve yet seen.

Not to Be Out-Dressed: Cruze RS

Perhaps surprised by the Cruze Eco’s improved appearance, Chevy has also decided to offer a sex-appeal-enhancement package for the more upscale Cruze LT and LTZ models. Cruzes equipped with the RS appearance package will greet the world with a snazzier front fascia featuring a honeycomb grille and chrome-trimmed fog lamps, a rear bumper with a chrome spear bisecting pretend grillework, a slim spoiler, subtle lower rocker fairings, and “RS” letters on the lower corners of the front doors.

Both Cruze derivatives will be arriving here later in 2010 as 2011 models. For a company that’s been uncompetitive in the small-car segment as long as Chevrolet has, they can’t get here soon enough.

Expensive And Luxury Cars | 2012 Mercedes-Benz CLS-Class Concept Details and Review

 2012 Mercedes-Benz CLS-Class

The Mercedes-Benz CLS-Class created a new vehicle category in 2003 by combining the elegance and expressiveness of a coupé with the comfort and functionality of a sedan. The Mercedes CLS delighted the public, astounded the competition and created a new style icon: for years the CLS has endured as the only four-door coupé in its class, and since October 2004 it has been the car of choice for around 170,000 buyers worldwide. "Customers all over the world benefited from our bold move to launch a completely new vehicle concept onto the market", explains a delighted Dr. Joachim Schmidt, member of the board of Mercedes-Benz Cars, Sales & Marketing. "And with its exciting design, the new edition of the Mercedes-Benz CLS-Class also benefits from the fact that we are a whole generation ahead of the competition with our four-door Coupé."

Celebrating its world premiere at the Paris motor show (October 2 - 17, 2010), the 2012 CLS-Class builds on the pioneering role of its predecessor with a fresh new interpretation. "The new Mercedes-Benz CLS-Class points the way forward for the future perceptible design idiom of Mercedes-Benz", explains Professor Gorden Wagener, head of design at Mercedes-Benz. "At the same time it takes its inspiration from the great tradition of stylish, refined sportiness which has always been a feature of Mercedes coupés."

Exterior: classic Coupé styling with distinctive front

The proportions remain as spectacular as ever: long hood, tightly-styled frameless side windows and a dynamic roof sweeping back at an angle towards the rear. The four-door Coupé from Mercedes-Benz immediately made its mark in 2003 as a new style icon. Though the proportions are the same, the second generation of this design trendsetter has a completely new look.

What immediately strikes the eye is the innovative front design, which is reminiscent of the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG. Visually, the radiator grille is not integrated into the hood but formed separately. This further highlights the long, sporty hood. The grille is dominated by the large central star, which unites the car with other Mercedes-Benz coupés and also enhances brand identity. The large, elongated dark air inlets with black grilles also add to the vehicle's athletic appearance.

Design brings high-tech features to life

Another distinguishing feature comes in the form of the full LED headlamps, which are the world's first to offer all of the dynamic light functions using LED technology. This innovation boasts an impressive design - inside they are divided into three arrow-shaped layers from top to bottom: the upper layer contains an LED indicator, beneath which is a striking LED side light offers LED low beam functions. The side light can also be seen when the high beam is activated, thereby creating a unique night-time design. The lowest level of the headlamp houses the main beam and nightview functions. A total of 71 LED's provide an unmistakable appearance as well as a significantly enhanced view of the road compared with previous systems.

The typical Mercedes-Benz CLS-Class outline, with its elegantly long proportions, is the dominating attribute of the new model. The effect of the dynamic, athletic form has been enhanced with a new interplay of lines and surfaces. A unique "dropping line", which begins above the front wheel-wells and slopes downward towards the rear, represents a new interpretation of a renowned design hallmark of historic Mercedes sports cars.

A distinctive and muscular sports car-like shoulder line above the rear axle highlights the athletic character of the 2012 CLS. The flared wheel arches resemble the powerful thighs of a feline predator waiting to pounce.

The side profile is rounded off with wide wrap-around tail lights featuring LED technology - a linking element to the rear of the vehicle. The shape is emphasized by the broad shoulder line, which is clearly visible from behind and supports the flat roof. A wide metal insert adds a further visual highlight at the rear.

The interior: design brings quality to life

The interior of the 2012 Mercedes-Benz CLS-Class is also distinguished by a timeless design which combines discreet elegance with innovative details and handcrafted perfection. The eye-catching cockpit features a wrap-around dashboard sweeping from the driver's door over the instrument panel support and across to the front passenger door. The central display has also been integrated seamlessly into the upper part of the instrument panel.

The Mercedes-Benz CLS also lives up to its role as a design icon thanks to the innovative nature of the materials used, including a mixture of satin and high-gloss finishes used on the metal surfaces. Highlights also include matte galvanized air vents which ideally compliment a high-gloss-trimmed analogue clock.

Handcrafted perfection is reflected in details such as the stitched seat covers and dashboard. The individual parts of the leather dashboard are sewn together by hand in a process which takes several hours, after which they are fitted and upholstered with high-quality padding. Prior to this process, the leather is also heated to preshrink it, so that it will retain its shape even after extreme exposure to direct sunlight.

Around four animal skins are processed for each CLS. The particularly exclusive 1.6-millimetre thick semi-aniline premium leather meets the highest standards of both look and feel. The natural pore structure remains intact thanks to a light pigmentation, and the leather has an especially warm and soft feel to it. Premium leather requires a very precise manual selection process and therefore a high amount of raw leather.

The refined interior of the Mercedes-Benz CLS-Class is further reflected in the generous use of high-quality trim elements, located on the instrument panels, center console and door linings. Customers can choose between high-gloss brown burl walnut or high-gloss black ash. The wood has been perfectly fitted around difficult contours for a masterful handcrafted finish, and the wood trim has been matched according to grain as part of an sophisticated selection process to create a consistent overall impression.

For an even more progressive look, black piano lacquer or carbon fiber trim elements are also available. Handcrafted as well, up to seven layers are applied and polished for the piano lacquer trim until the high-gloss finish is achieved.

Honda 167,255 Acura TSX cars

 Honda 167,255 Acura TSX cars

Honda Motor Co Ltd said it would recall 167,255 Acura TSX sedans sold in the U.S. market to address the risk that power steering fluid could leak and cause an under-the-hood fire. The recall, covering 2004-2008 model year Acura TSX vehicles with 2.4-liter inline four-cylinder engines, comes after one fire was reported due to leaking fluid.

Honda and U.S. safety regulators said that over time power steering hoses may crack and leak. U.S. safety regulators in a statement issued Friday morning said power steering fluid "leaking onto a hot exhaust pipe will generate smoke and a burning smell, and could potentially result in an under hood fire."

Honda will notify U.S. Acura TSX owners and its dealers will repair the Acuras for free, beginning on May 28, said the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration in a report. The repair, Honda said, involves installation of a new power steering hose, O-ring gasket and fluid. Honda officials in Canada said that cars in Canada were not subject to the recall.

Sport Cars Gallery | 2011 Acura TSX Sport Wagon - Official Details and Informations

 2011 Acura TSX Sport Wagon

As we’ve watched the crossover genre take on a bajillion different permutations of late, it’s refreshing to see a good, old-fashioned station wagon like the new Acura TSX Sport Wagon appear. This is especially true at a time when even the most established wagon-makers continue to withhold or withdraw their best five-doors from the U.S. market.

Then again, we shouldn’t exactly call this a good, old-fashioned station wagon, based as it is on the nimble, handsome Acura TSX (which itself is a fancified version of the European Honda Accord), a car that we at Car and Driver have generally enjoyed in sedan form for years. When it arrives here this summer, the TSX wagon will be offered only in front-wheel-drive form, powered by the TSX sedan’s base, 201-hp four-cylinder engine mated to a five-speed paddle-shifted manumatic. It’s not as exciting a combo as, say, a V-6 and a manual, but it’s a setup that will afford greater odds of success.

The rear end features not just a longer roof and thus a taller, more capacious cargo area than a regular trunk, but also three hidden compartments beneath the cargo floor, as well as a removable side panel behind the left rear wheel housing that allows for lateral placement of long items like a set of golf clubs. Otherwise, the interior is pretty much identical to that of the four-door TSX, and will include lots of standard features, such as power leather seats, a sunroof, Bluetooth, USB/iPod connectivity, and Acura’s latest navigation system. And good news for audiophiles: Acura’s superb ELS surround-sound audio also will be offered in the TSX wagon.

To many of us, however, the wagon model simply satisfies our contrarian streak that loves to see something purportedly “domestic” outfitted with super-fat twin tailpipes and muscular haunches. Acura predicts that the sporty-wagon segment will grow 40 percent by 2014. (What, from eight sold each year to 11? Hi-oh!) We hope the forecasters are right, as we’d love to see more slick wagons like this one arrive to satisfy the demand. Pricing has yet to be announced, but we are told to expect it to land in the mid-$30K range, between the four- and six-cylinder TSX sedans.

2011 Aston Martin DB9 Coupe and DB9 Volante Information Details

2011 Aston Martin DB9 Coupe and DB9 Volante

Aston Martin’s long-awaited update to the DB9, a car many consider to be as close to aesthetic perfection as any coupe or convertible can get these days, brings almost no changes to the exterior. How can we complain about that without sounding bratty? Although timelessness counts for a lot in this business, so does freshness.

So we sort of wish that the 2011 model changes, the most significant since the DB9’s 2004 introduction, went a little further than a new front fascia, brighter grillework, subtly reshaped side sills, and “new” headlamp bezels that we’re still struggling to see as different. (Where are the LED turn signals or DRLs, à la Rapide and Vantage, guys?) Diamond-turned 20-inch wheels, like those available on Aston’s other offerings, become DB9-isms for 2011 as well.

Under the skin, the only update of note is the fitment of Aston’s Active Damping System, which features Comfort and Sport settings, in place of last year’s passive (but hardly sloppy) system. Tire-pressure monitoring and Bluetooth connectivity have found their way into the DB9 for next year, and the options list has grown to include a new “Double Apex” alloy trim treatment and a Bang & Olufsen sound system, the latter also previously available throughout the rest of the Aston lineup. There are no changes to the sonorous, 470-hp, 5.9-liter V-12 under the hood, nor the six-speed manual or automatic transaxles. The engine and ZF automatic saw upgrades for the 2009 model year.

While the changes are limited in our eyes, Aston did have its hands full with development of the Rapide and One-77, so we’re willing to cut it some slack. Now, whether customers will bear that in mind as Aston asks them to hand over a large sum of money—$188,965 for the coupe or $202,465 for the Volante—in exchange for a brand-new car that, while still aesthetically brilliant, appears virtually identical to the last seven years of DB9s is a tougher call.

Luxury Cars | 2011 Aston Martin V8 Vantage N420 Coupe

 2011 Aston Martin V8 Vantage N420 Coupe

Aston Martin has made a habit of competing in the 24-hour race at Germany’s famed Nürburgring, and of peddling special-edition street cars commemorating its doing so. The company’s big news pertaining to the race this year was the participation of a Rapide sedan, which finished second in its class and 38th overall. The special edition to come out of this year’s race is not based on the Rapide, however, but the V-8 Vantage.

Available either as a coupe or a convertible, with either a six-speed manual or six-speed automated-manual transmission, the N420 is powered by an untouched version of the Vantage’s 4.7-liter V-8. It still makes 420 horsepower, but should sound even more stirring doing so, thanks to a modified exhaust system. (Check out our weekly “Name That Exhaust Note” blog feature to hear the standard V-8 Vantage in action.) The only other mechanical upgrade this Vantage has over standard-issue examples is that it will include the otherwise optional Sport package, comprised of revised springs, shocks, and anti-roll bars.

Visually, the N420 likewise will remain close to other Vantages. Wider rockers are complemented by a front splitter, rear diffuser, and fender vents rendered in carbon fiber, and the fenders are filled with unique 10-spoke wheels with black-painted highlights. Greater differentiation comes courtesy of optional Race Collection paint schemes, which offer contrasting colors on the roof rails and—lipstick-style, as on Aston racing cars—around the grille.

The N420 will make its U.S. debut at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance in August. Orders may be placed starting this month, with deliveries to begin in the fourth quarter of 2010. Pricing starts at $133,350 for the coupe and $146,350 for the Roadster, less than $10K more than their non-N420 counterparts.

Excelent Body Cars | Aston Martin DB-ONE Concept

Aston Martin DB-ONE Concept

The Aston Martin DB-ONE concept is the product of independent designer Ruben Vela, based in Spain. The DB-ONE concept is a proposal for an extreme Aston Martin, with classical proportions combined with ultramodern surfaces resulting in a fresh vehicle which also represents the traditions associated with Aston Martin.
In designing the Aston Martin DB-ONE Vela took the elements essential to Aston Martin, large front grille, long bonnet and side vents and created a car with an immense sense of movement, based around the idea of tension - beginning with the grille and moving back towards the rear of the car.

The body surfaces of the DB-ONE highlight all the power emanating from the proposed 550 horsepower, 6.0 litre, V12 engine even when static. "Cars aren't static objects, so I believe it's important to show dynamism in the design. And this is much more important when you are designing a super-sports car," says Vela.

The rear of the Aston Martin DB-ONE concept is extremely clean due to the small gap in the tail which hides the taillights and a rear diffuser provides a neat finish to the design. Although the Aston Martin DB-ONE is an independent design created outside the company and exists only on a computer and as a scale model, Aston Martin's new owners, Prodrive, could certainly take note of a few styling ideas introduced by Vela on the DB-ONE concept.

Best Auto Tuning Cars | BMW S.X Concept Performs

BMW S.X Concept Performs

Iulian Bumbu, a graduate of the Transportation Design Course at the Scuola Politecnica di Design (SPD) in Milan, has created another concept car after the Lamborghini Insecta Concept. The new concept car from Iulian Bumbu is known as BMW S.X Concept, a premium sports coupe.

According to the designer, the S.X Concept would be well positioned to take over where the current 6 Series BMW leaves off and the styling should gather more positive responses than the 6 Series does. Among the unique features of the BMW S.X Concept are the additional high mount brake lights incorporated into the edges of the rear window and the lateral vents located behind the front wheels provide a point of origin for the styling lines.

There are no details about the powertrain but according to diseno-art.com, the BMW S.X Concept could be powered by a mid-front engine layout similar to all BMW sports car RWD.

New Tunning Car Concept | SKN BMW Z4 Details

SKN BMW Z4 Performances
A new tuning program for the BMW Z4 has been released by the guys at SKN Motorsport. They were able to increase the cars power to over 400 hp, while also improving the driving dynamics. However, SKN is not your everyday tuning company, and in their latest press release they mention that the company previously modified police cars for undercover work. This BMW Z4 is nothing like a cop car though, but the list of aftermarket parts will have you checking your wallet to see if you can afford it all. Starting off the Z4 kit is a new stainless steel exhaust system with silencers, mufflers, and tailpipes. For better handling SKN installed an adjustable coilover system, and improvements under the hood come next.

A K&N cold air intake was hooked up, along with an ECU remapping and speed limiter increase. These performance upgrades result in a 0 to 100 km/h time of just over 4.1 seconds, and the impressive 401 horsepower mark. A new braking system was needed for this extra power, so SKN installed 380 mm discs with 4-piston calipers on the BMW Z4. Besides the stock body, the one addition that makes this BMW look custom are the 19-inch BBS Motorsport CH wheels available in either silver or black. The wheels measure up to be 19×8.5 in the front, and 19×9.5 in the rear, which come wrapped in high performance tires.

BMW Car Pictures | The BMW’s Secret New Sports Car

BMW’s Secret New Sports Car

BMW’s secret sports prototype is out in the open. But instead of being snapped by one of our spy photographers, the German firm has taken matters into its own hands by creating an official website aimed at revealing the progress of the project using a host of social networking tools. The car uses the rear bodywork of the current 6-Series with the nose of the Vision EfficientDynamics concept car which debuted at last year’s Frankfurt Motor Show. No further information is given, apart from a note that the car is “more than a 6 Series. But the car is not yet in its final stage.”

The pictures does give away that the mule is running on narrow 195-section tyres which dramatically reduce rolling resistance, mounted on aerodynamic wheels. The car uses electric power, thanks to its silent running, but features a conventional powerplant too, which can be heard in one of the videos and is hinted at by the car’s small exhaust pipe.

The mule will be the focus of BMW’s future efficiency technology, which was previewed by the Vision EfficientDynamics concept, and will spawn a production sports car in 2012.

The concept featured a compact, 1.5-litre three-cylinder diesel engine boosted by a 60kW electric motor at the front, and a further 38kW motor which formed part of the double clutch gearbox. A variant of this is likely what’s hiding beneath this prototype’s Frankenstein bodywork.
